Gaming Memories - Part 1

Hey guys, time for another blog here.

So for this blog I'm going to be doing something I have been wanting to do for a while but have not got around to it. I'm going to do a gaming memories story from my childhood. This is the first in a series that I'm sure I will do more of in the future where I just tell you about a gaming related memory from the past. I hope you like them.

To start this off right I will tell you all my favorite gaming memory of all, why not right?

The year was 1987, or maybe 1988, I'm not really sure. I had my Nintendo Entertainment System for roughly 8 months at the time. My family and I went on a trip to Florida for I'd say 10-14 days. Now I was always on the lookout for video games back then, really I guess not much has changed. We went to some store maybe a Wall-Mart and I was looking for a game. My mom had said she would buy me a game so I started looking. So I'm just looking and look at all the awesome Nintendo games there and my mom comes up to me with this game in had and tells me "this looks cool". I take a look at the game, thinking yea mom wtf do you know about "cool" games? The box was all gold and there was a cutout on part of the box where you could see the actual game cartridge and that was gold as well. Was I impressed? Nope. I said this game looks stupid. I'm not sure why but despite my initial reaction I still bought The Legend of Zelda that day.

So with a few days left on the trip I opened the game to read the manual. It also came with a hit book, a very small one, that said don't open unless you really need to. I'm guessing they wanted you to figure stuff out on your own. I said F that and read everything the books had to offer. In no time I was psyched to get home and play my new game. It really made the trip seem to take forever.

The rest is history. I got home and played that beast for months strait and still go back to it to this day. What a great game and I will always be thankful to my mother for bringing it to my attention.

The Minecraft Fanatic

Hey guys Kage848 here for another blog,

Ok today I'm going to talk about a special breed of gamer. This specimen of gamer is quite unique in the gaming world at large.

Now while the gaming population has it's share of fanboys, fangirls and unreasonable strong feelings twords some games, good or bad, this breed of fanatic is nothing like I have ever encountered before. This special breed of gamer fanatic will not, or can not, listen to reason about there game of choice. As a video maker on Youtube when I neglect this one game these fanatics go into a frenzyed uproar of mass destruction and hatred. It really is something special.

Of course I'm speaking of the Minecraft Fanatic, one of the most hardcore fanatics of any game I have ever seen. The Minecraft fanatic will rise up to defend Minecraft and It's creator, Notch. If anything is said against this game or It's creator the fans will band together and fight tooth and nail in defense of said game, or creator.

Another thing I find interesting about this breed of fanatic gamer is when there are people wanting to emulate such a game. There have been a few "Minecraft clones" out there and this tends to enrage the MCF's like nothing else. They can't understand that there can be Minecraft clones out there and It doesn't make Minecraft any less of a game and really doesn't effect the game at all. Attempts have been made to bring light to this situation for the MCF's but they have all met with failure.

For me personally, I love Minecraft as well. I have been playing it since alpha for over a year now, as of this post it's still not out in its full release. Then one thing I want more than anything is for the game to keep improving. This can only be accomplished with critical analysis and that cannot be done if we can't speak Ill of the almighty Notch. I think Notch has brought us an amazing game but it can be improved. No game is ever finished, it's only abandoned. But Minecraft is still not fully released so I like to talk about what's wrong with the game, not in any hopes that Notch will ever hear me but only to vent on the things I'd like to see improved.

As far as copycats I don't see an issue here either. What's wrong with clones really? I think the gaming world would be a much better place with more games like minecraft instead of the generic first person shooter bullshit we have coming out ever year these days.

In conclusion one thing I would like to say is I admire the MCF. I love to see this kind of passion about gaming in general and I really love to see it about a game I love so much. Fans like these are some of the best when you sit down and think about it. So rant on Minecraft Fanatic, I salute you.

Is Nintendo Doomed!?

Hey guys time for another Kage848 Blog,

So here is my first real blog on my Blogspot account.

Today I'm going to talk about where Nintendo is heading and the and the possible future of the gaming company. Where they have been, where they are heading and where I think they will end up in the future gaming market. So lets get started.

So I was like 10 When I was first introduced to Nintendo through the Nintendo Entertainment System, aka The NES. Needless to say I was blown away. Super Mario Brothers, Metroid and The Legend of Zelda were games I could never even dream of at the time considering I was gaming on the Atari 2600.

Fast forward a few years and Nintendo had there first real challenger, Sega. Now Sega was no big deal in the 8-bit days but then came the Genesis. Welcome to the 16-bit generation. The Genesis was a beast of a machine and gave Nintendo a run for there money, even though once Nintendo got there own 16-bit system out they actually won that generation. Still Sega showed Nintendo was not untouchable.

Now the next generation of consoles was going to introduce a new comer, Sony. Here was Nintendo's first real blunder in video games. Nintendo decided, for varies reasons, so stick with cartiges instead of using CDs. This one decision cost them Final Fantasy VII. Now that's only one game mind you, although it was a huge game that generation, but it lead to other companies making games for the Playstation because FF VII single handedly legitimized the platform. We all know how the 32-bit generation ended up, Nintendo had the ass whopped.

It only got worse the next generation with the Gamecube, the little purple lunchbox. The PS2 continued slong with it's domination and the X-Box even did very well that generation, for a new console.

Now this generation has showed some major success for Nintendo and the Wii. The Wii had some early hardcore success with games like Twilight Princess and Smash Brothers. Oh and Mario Kart Wii was good as well. After that though Nintendo fell into the casual space. The Wii was too far behind the other consoles in major features, graphics and online being the main two. Still the casuals and the early hardcore made the Wii and insane success.

Now that I have got all that out of the way I'll explain to you why I think Nintendo will be on there way out soon if things don't change.

First of all the only companies Nintendo has ever beaten, before this gen, was Sega and Atari. Well there were others but these two were the only real ones. Now Nintendo is facing two companies with deep pockets. Like REALLY DEEP POCKETS! I don't think many people realize just how BIG Microsoft and Sony are compared to Nintendo.

Now Sony, and to a lesser extent, Microsoft build these insanely powerful machines and do something Nintendo can't afford to do, sell them at a loss. The original Playstation 3 cost Sony $800 to produce at the time and they were charging $600 for it. Microsoft had it better but they still took a loss for a while. Nintendo can't afford to do that.

So Nintendo can't put out the kind of machines the other two can. They have to rely on innovation for there success, ie the Wii...

Can Nintendo do it again? I don't know but I fear for the company. The day I have to buy Zelda on the 360 or PS3 I will die a little inside...

I wish them luck...

My new Blog site

Hey all It's time for my first blog on my new blog site,

I know what you're all thinking, Kage why start a new blog site? Well people that's a great question and I'm glad you asked. Let's just say that wordpress, my old blog site was giving me problems and leave it at that. So now here I am on Blogger.

I want to keep Kage848.com going but do something different with it but I'm not sure what that could be. Maybe forget about blogging there and turn it into a kind of website or something. Let me know in some comments what you think I could do with Kage848.com.

I am going to be working hard here to make this site as cool as my first one and I hope you like it just as much...
